I am buying a 1977 Pontiac Bonneville in the very near future from a private dealer in Northern Louisiana. I have to drive the oldschool back to Houston, TX. I am not worried about Louisiana, but when I get back to texas, Im sure a state trooper will stop me if he sees that I have no license plates. Im a 19 yr old college student, and this will be my first car purchase. So how does switching titles and insurance work in this case? And what can I do so that the long arm of the law in TX doesnt stop me? Thanks

I'm 17, 6'0 - 6'1, and 220 - 230 lbs. I'm new to riding and mainly want a bike because they are very cheap compared to cars. I'm looking at a Ninja 650R. Is that bike big enough for my size? I also liked the Suzuki 650 but i'm leaning to the Ninja because I like the exaust better (and its cheaper.) Is Suzuki Better? Also does anyone know about how many MPG it will get? My guess would be around 70 but I could be way off. And finally insurance, I live in the Houston area in Texas.
What is a good website that sells motorcycle gear?

My car was hit and damaged by a person who did not have Drivers license and his Liability insurance was expired. police did give him 3 tickets (NO DL, NO Ins., Failure to control speed) and I have the police report with me.
From the police report I have his address and phone number. No one is answering the phone now and no response to the letter I sent to him.
Looks like that person may not have any permanent address. The car is owned by some other person.
I do not have collision coverage, so my Insurance company will not help in getting this money from him.
So what are my options? How do I trace the owner of the vehicle?
My car has damage worth around $9000.00 (Houston, TX)
Luckily we only had some minor neck/back pains.

Ok, so I'll be moving to Houston, Texas this August for law school and I definently won't be working. I'll be on loans and even when it comes to the necessary items, I have a lot of expenses. I'm trying to keep them to as much of a minimum as I possibly can though.
I have to pay for rent I'm getting a 2 bd, so that I can find a roommate), utilities, books/supplies, food, transportation....ya know, all the regular stuff. PLUS, I have to keep making payments on my credit card, the parent loan I got under my dad's name, gym membership, and car insurance.
I definently need all this stuff (even the gym).
PLEASE HELP! How can I cut some corners, be a smart shopper and save money. I'm open to any suggestions you may have! Thanks! :o)

I live in Houston, Texas and i dropped my car of to get fixed after getting rear ended. I picked up my car this morning and noticed a big scratch that was not there when the accident occured. I even have my own pictures from the accident showing that it was not there. My question is, can i ask for their insurance and take it to a different shop. I no longer trust them with my car and would like someone else to fix it with a warranty of the work. They did right a not and sign it saying they damaged the car, so am i in the right asking someone else to fix it through the body shops insurance?
I just called and they refused to give me their garage liability information. I told them i would get three quotes from competitive shops. They said they would look at them, but they are not paying anything over what their shop would charge. Is this something i will have to take to small claims court or is there a way to get their insurance information without having to go through them.

I am 17 years old living in Houston, Texas and have completed drivers ed classes to get my license all I need is my car insurance. The other day my mom called our auto insurance company to add my name to the insurance of our family car so i would be able to drive it, but they told her they couldn't add me because I had a class c misdemeanor on my record. I was charged with possesion of marijuana when I was 15 years old but I went on probation for 6 months and my probation officer told me when I completed my probation it would be cleaned off my record as if I had never even comitted the crime. Why is this problem occuring?

I'm flying into Houston and I want to rent a car - ideally a convertable :-D - for about three weeks and then return it at LAX before flying out.
I'm 21, have a full clean British driving license and have been driving for about 4 years.
Presumably this is possible, but how much will it cost, and whats the deal with age/returns/insurance etc?
Thanks Americans, I look forward to seeing your country.

belive me if you saw the pics you would definetly agree it was his fault. At first the insurance said they would pay 50% now they said they will pay0!! so im going after both the insurance and the person responsible.

I used to want a SUV type because of all the trucks and stuff on the houston highways, but because of what gas would end up costing me, I've decided a car would be better.
What I need help, is what kind of car? I'm looking for something with style to it. It can't be a sports car because of the insurance, and It has to be under $5,000 to fit my budget.
I also want a reliable car (somtheing that's going to be able to last me more thyan a year)
So, any ideas?
P.S-
I know nothing on Mazdas, Hyundais, or Honda's, so if you could go into detail of the car, that would be awsome.
What about Mitsubishi?
I kinda like the Mitsubishi Eclipse...

I have been offered teaching jobs in both Houston (suburbs) and in Tampa. I visited TX to take a tour of some schools, but unfortuanatly, when you're only there for a few days it's more like a vacation than anything else. I'm heading to Tampa on Thursday to have some more interviews and look around. I'm worried that Tampa is SUPER expensive. Everything will go up from where I'm used to (Iowa). Property taxes, car insurance, cost of living will go up a lot but I really like the look of the area and the weather sounds great! But it's so hard to get a feel for truly LIVING there, not just visiting!!! Any thoughts (good and bad) about working and living in Tampa? At this poing I'm slightly leaving toward Texas b/c the teacher salary is about 6000 more and our dollar can go further (bigger house etc). Anyway, I'd like any ideas you have. My husband is currently deployed so I'm really making this decision on my own and want to weigh everything! Thanks!!!!

last night i was driving striaght to my way. i had red light so i stopped. Then after i started to go on as my light turned green. As there was upcoming traffic from other side and they have left turn. They have green yield sign and they do show arrow too. But what happened was i was on my red light. So as soon as, it turned green i started to go on. But the guy coming from next side even didnt realize his sign was yield. i was almost gone but he came and hit me on as i tried to avoid him. My speed was barely 10 mph. after that cops came in but he didnt gave anyone ticket saying our statement doesnt mind as we both told him eachother light was green. But later on he said me he would put him on fault as it was his responsible to yield. so now can you suggest what to do? i've liability insurance so do i need to hire attorney or talk to them myself? what are the chances for getting in my favor.what should i say insu. adjusters? it happened on houston texas n he has old county mutual insu
thanks all of you for your suggestion. But now there is a big twist i called his insurance company. They told me the car has the policy but not on the guy name who had hited me. so what did i need to do? i talked to my insurance company and they told me like if he is excluded driver they might denied your claim. is that possible?

The truck was trying to come out of he parking lot and beat the jammed traffic. We were on our lane, the truck tried to come out of parking lot from the right when all of a sudden he decided to try to cut across 4 lanes to go back to the opposite direction(our left). the truck hit us on my side.We pulled in the parking lot.We were going to check the car for damages but my stomach started hurting so we headed off to the hospital. The truck got on the lane he was trying to get on since the beginning and drove off. Since im 7months pregnant, the doctors recommended for me to stay under supervision for 6 hours.the city of houston is saying they want to take us to court cuz we hit THEM!! The cops told me in the hospital they could not do nothing since I did not know nothing about the guy. I got license plates but still was not able to file against. What's going to happen now? who is getting more in trouble?Him or us for no driver license nor insurance? Does it matter that I was pregnant?

Hi.
Im asking this for my father. Unfortunately he was hit by an old lady who happened to get on his way on a three-lane avenue in Houston. He was apparently drving on the middle lane when an old lady in a car came in through the right and hit him on the bumper and right fender. Fortunately no one was hurt it was just a small fender bender. But heres the dilema, My father is a 59 yr old hispanic male who thinks knows how everything works. Aparently and supposedly the old lady took the blame and a police officer made a report., everybody goes home, happy ending. Well it came to my knowledge that after the accident the old lady with out my father knowing, blamed him, and since his english vocabulary is very limited in, from my point of view they (old lady and officer) put the blame on my father, the thing is that I dont live in the states or else I could be doing something about this. The old lady's insurance people already called my Dad and they dont know what to do. Any professional

My wife just noticed her driver's license has expired. She has aready renewed it over the web but the new DL will only arrive in 15 to 20 days. As she needs to drive before the new DL arrives, what happens in case of an accident? Will or can the insurance company deny any claims based on the expired driver's license? We live in Houston, TX.

I was involved in a minor car accident. The other driver was at fault. I forgot the name of the insurance company when I got the other driver's information. The phone number he provided me was not in service. Can anybody tell me what insurance company this policy # applies to, assuming the insurance card he showed me was legitimate? The policy number is 3042572790 (Ten digits) and is for the state of Texas, in the Houston area. Thanks in advance.

I was involved in a car accident this idiot hit me from behind in the toll plaza apparently under the influence, he admitted fault and his insurance is paying for a rental car and the repairs to my car, but I have been to see a chiropracter for my neck and back, which lead to 6 weeks of therapy.... is he responsible for payment of my medical bills and any pain and suffering???? If he only has liability on his vehicle? We live in Houston Texas if that makes a difference.

the other party's insurance adjuster told me it was up to me if i wanted to go see a doctor, but that I would get compensation for the accident even if i didn't go.
today, i told her i'd gone to the doctor's and she clearly said "when you have completed your visits to the doctor, submit your bills so that we may reimburse you for the doctors visits, prescription medicine, the cost for the car repairs and compensation from the accident."
i didn't ask how much it would be..... and i have no idea either....
any ideas on what the amount could possibly be?
I'm in Houston, the other driver's insurance is AllState...

I'm 20 years old making around $3,200/month and have $15,000 in the bank that I saved up while living with my parents. I currently have no debt, my credit score is perfect, my car has been paid for and I have no kids. Would I be able to afford a 200k-250k home in the Houston, TX or Sugar Land area? If so, what would be the best mortgage company to finance my home and for the best rate?
I'm looking to pay no more than $2000/month for mortgage, insurance, and taxes on the house together. Commercials like Ditech, Quicken Loans, and Lending Tree usually promise a $200,000 loan between $450 and $999 a month. Sounds pretty good, but my mom says it's unrealistic and that for the type of house that I want, I'd be paying well over $2000 a month for the mortgage alone aside from property taxes, utilities, etc.
Any advice?

I had an accident in Houston, TX, and the illegal immigrant who hit me had no license or insurance. The cop said that he could not arrest him. I got screwed out of paying $3000 in damages for my car because I have only limited liability, which covers other drivers hit by me. What legal action can I take againt the illegal? what are my next steps now? Can I put a lien on his car?

Hi. I have an emergency and need to go to Houston for about 2 months. Im a US citizen but live in Mexico, my car has insurance with coverage in the US. Do I have to apply for a Texas DL? I found nothing on the Tx dmv page.
Mon, 02 Apr 2007 17:58:03 GMT
i am 18and i got a ticket,
i dont got a DL
and didnt have insurance
the cop pulled me oer because he said that i should have pulled to other other lane and switch lanes because there was another car being pulle dover so basically i should have switch lanes beacause of that car on the side of the road.
he said that i could call a number he gave me to tell them how i could fix the ticket because i didnt have to come all the way.
Also i enrolled in th army and i though that they could push it out so i could pay it after i come back from basic training but now they say that they cant do anything about it because i leave for training AFTER the ticket has to be paid...how can i deal w this? how could i pay it? can the split it so i dont have to pay alot pf money at once?

I have been calling lawyers from the phone book about my stolen car and ive been calling all the wrong lawyers because they dont handle my case. Heres a breif info about my case.
I left the car to get fixed at a car shop and the next day it got stolen. The guy i left it with left My KEYS IN THE CAR and the door unlocked. There is a sign that says not responsible for theft. I have liabilty insurance. A week later the car is found at the junkyard. The car is no longer in good condition but still in one peice. The dealership wont fix the car or replace the car. Would i be able to sue? He did leave the keys in the car. Theres a full in depth story in my other question.
I need a good lawyer in houston that will take my case. Does any one know of any one i can call.

I am currently not in USA. I will be relocating to Houston in 6 months time. My employer has offered me salary of 60K annual + 10-15K bonus (70-75K total package) along with Health Insurance for family.
I will be moving with my wife (2 person family) Please guide me what would be my average expenditure per month in houston for average style living.
1) Apartment Rent (1-2 BR)
2) Food (If mostly cooked at home) & groceries
3) Utility bills (electricity, water, gas)
4) If i buy a car on installments (btw i have no idea of car prices in US. A decent second hand car will be ok for me), car insurance.
5) Any other major expenses..
How much should i expect to save after all expenditures if i have average living style?
Btw i dont have any idea how much taxes would be deducted from my salary? Say if my salary is 5K per month, how much taxes will be deducted if i am married and my wife is not working.
Is 70-75K per month in houston a good salary keeping in mind the living cost

hi, I'll be moving to Houston next month from Australia and would like to ask a local which are the best banks and (auto)insurance companies. Of course, one can always go directly to Chase, BoA or Wells Fargo but do these offer the best service? The net banking is probably the feature I am most interested in. Also, in terms of car insurance, what is your experience. Based on my research and ratings I was contemplating Amica or Nationwide. Much appreciated thanks.

I have been trying to start a business for years, but I am always either short on finances (I pay $200 a month for car insurance without a steady income) or it would be a lot easier once I'm 18... So I decided that if I can get a group of teens together, we could come up with a good idea and see if it works.
I would prefer to get a group together in Houston so that we wouldn't be restricted to the Internet, but if you live outside of Houston it will be easier to recruit from all around the U.S....
E-mail me at titans8904@yahoo.com if you have an idea/want to join or just post here...

(there are 970,000 cars in houston

I pay $200/month for car insurance and I'm running on my last pennies... I have been actively seeking a job in data entry but most require previous experience or 18 years of age... Really I would accept a job anywhere within 15 miles of where I live (area code 77005). I can work for minimum wage. However, on weekdays I will only be able to work 21/2 hours from 630 to 8, but on weekends I can work as many hours as needed. I am computer-literate and can work a cash register....
In response to Rhonda:
I'm still attending school and have every intention to go to college (I go to a Prep school). I'm looking for a flexible part-time job.

My uncle is in town and he needs to borrow my SUV.
He has a New York license, and my SUV has insurance (but doesn't have his name on it). Would it be OK for him to drive it, even if he gets stopped? He has my permission to drive the vehicle, and I own the title.
I live in Houston, TX.

I live in west of Houston in Texas. I got a speeding ticket for going 50 in a 35. I was only going with the flow of traffic and was the slowest car on the road. The section where I got pulled over is an 8 lane wide road with close to a mile between stop lights. Most of the cars were going about 60 around me. One car was going at least 70. I know that doesn't probably help my case, but because I saw the cop pull into on coming traffic (which I was suprised because the traffic was kind of heavy) I knew that he was going after us, so I ducked into the first apartment complex, and I parked and saw the cop drive by, slam on the brakes then reverse (this cop drove so crazy I think he had a death wish). But anyways I got the ticket, but if I had chose a spot a little bit further back wouldn't have, but that's how it goes. My question is, how can I take care of this without having my insurance go through the roof since I'm under 25. I know I can't fight it in court because I won't win.

My Daughter was convicted friday by 11 jurors in Montgomery county, Conroe Texas by Judge Mayes. I need to get help for her our resources are tapped out and I always thought you had to have 12 jurors, If anyone can help me in this matter or know of any groups in Houston TX that can help me . She is being sentenced on Monday of intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assult. It was proven by the states witness that the things in her system were at such low levels it could have been up to 30 hours before the accident. Everyone in the truck who was wearing a seatbelt lived but a 8yr. old boy died. The driver of the truck had no license in texas he was considered blind and no insurance on the truck. My daughter was blamed for crossing the line, by troopers who didn't investigate or look in the other truck, once they found a joint in her car. There were empty pill bottles in the truck, labels of and a X on the lid. The troopers decided she was at fault. No blood test on the other driver.
